If a picture is worth 1000 words, then succinct, well organized tutorials filled with annotated images are worth MILLIONS.
I prefer written tutorials with images over videos because they can be created extremely quickly and they can be updated very easily as feedback is provided indicating holes or confusion. There is a place for videos and video tutorials in education, but it's often much further down the educational spectrum than written education with (annotated) photos. Especially those being offered in a free or very low cost digital environment with instant update abilities.
These tutorials are designed to get you comfortable with Chromebooks, Chrome O/S and/or Chromium O/S before or after you own anything.
The Chromebooks for Dummies book is a $13 to 15 book/ebook. I'm a dummies fan, but I didn't find it to be very good. If I didn't know better, I'd feel it may have been slightly misleading. If you like the information below, think about the trees saved in this knowledge transfer for FREE. Then please consider making a donation so I can keep doing this type of educational publishing work as we shift away from long time publishers who like to kill trees and consume Creative Writers profits while producing static and mediocre work from time to time.
SUGGESTION: If you read paper better or want paper references, consider printing out the sections below of interest and put them in a three ring binder. Use yellow stickies for a poor mans tab system if you d like! (click down arrow to the right for more introductory info)...
101.1 - A Tale of Two Chromebooks (on the Exterior only) - 9 - (1/15/2020)
This document introduces you to the outside of a Commercially produced Chromebook. It also shows you the exterior of an old Windows Machine that was converted to a Chromebook.
101.2 - Chrome v Chromium, Machine Owner Info and Machine Reset Intro - 5 - (1/15/2020)
This document introduces the Chrome and Chromium O/S. It shows you how to tell the difference between a commercial Chromebook and a DIY Chrombook. It provides a little guidance about the discernment required to buy a Commercial Chromebook. It encourages users to REUSE old computers by converting them into Chromebooks now and into perpetuity. It provides information related to the first user account and the "Machine Owner" role that user takes on. It also introduces machine resets.
101.2a - 1st Use on a New or Newly Reset machine!! - 13 - (1/15/2020)
This walks you through the first screens and first login and logout process for a new device that just came out of a box and/or a device that has just been power washed (reset plus removal of all user accounts).
101.2b - Reset or Power Wash Machine- 6 - (1/15/2020)
Resetting a machine is done when it's not behaving properly and you don't feel it's related to your user account information. The machine is returned to factory settings without removing user account information.
Power Wash is a machine reset PLUS it removes all your user data from the machine (not from the cloud). That said if someone had stored some downloaded data like videos or music locally and not in their cloud drive, that cold be lost.
101.3 - Typical Login Screen Introduction - 6 - (1/15/2020)
This document introduces the Login Screen in detail. It picks up assuming there is at least one user account created. It breaks the login screen into 8 parts / items.
101.4 - You've just logged in. You see Wall Paper and _______ !!! - 8 - (1/15/2020)
This document picks up as if you've just successfully logged in to a Chrome O/S device. It introduces Wall Paper and the Desktop. It introduces "the shelf" (aka a menu bar) and the App Launcher button in the bottom left (aka the Launcher) which leads to apps. It introduces the "oval status area" and the significant pop-op that comes up if you click on that with all kinds of tools and options. (NOTE: It's not intuitive the information accessible from the oval status area would be there. A separate button type system would have been far better, but nobody asked me.)
101.5 - Application (App) Details and App Crossover Suggestions !! - 9 - (1/15/2020)
This document picks up with the apps screen. It provides a framework for trying to mentally categorize or organize what Google calls "apps". It then provides links to google resources for App crossover information which many will find extremely handy.
101.6 - Settings (Machine and O/S Settings found at The Gear Icon) - 5 - (1/15/2020)
An introduction to the Gear Icon and Machine and O/S Settings
101.7 - Multiple Users (Make the World Go Round) - 6 - (1/15/2020)
This document goes over the protocals and security information related to having multiple users logged into a Chrome O/S device at one time. The machine will store user profiles privately and users can log in one at a time. If multiple users want to be logged in at one time for convenience, that's fine, but there is no security between those accounts when they are all logged in together. There is a toggle option that switches the screen(s) from one user account to another until they all logout. (THIS IS SIMILAR BUT QUITE DIFFERENT THAN HAVING MULTIPLE USERS LOGGED INTO THE CHROME BROWSER ON A PC OR MAC AND THAT IS DISCUSSED BRIEFLY IN THIS DOCUMENT.)
101.8 - Multiple Monitor Handling (because 1 simply isn't enough) - 11 - (1/15/2020)
A computer is not a computer without an External Monitor. Commercial Chromebooks and all laptops are designed to handle at least one external monitor in addition to the built in one. Some of the commercial Chromebooks seem to be able to handle two external monitors as long as one is a USB 3.0 monitor. Also, there is another lowcost option for adding more monitors, but these should be for slow motion stuff or normal streaming. They likely won't work great for high speed gaming, or should be tested first (somehow).

102.1 - Introduction to a Web Browser (a walkie-talkie in disguise!) - 8 - (1/17/2020)
This document covers the following:
What is a Web Browser? What does it do? What is Browsing or Surfing the Internet?
How does this Walkie-Talkie-like system work? What is a Web Address/URL?
What are some analogies to TV use?
102.2 - Introduction to Types of Websites - 7 - (1/17/2020)
Websites present and do different things. Many people have never taken the time to inventory the different types of sites and what they do. I found sites related to podcasting to be the most confusing and I'm a very seasoned technology person. These poor folks ahead of me and behind me with less technology background are so lost it's silly. Hopefully this seemingly simple document will help out more than most can imagine.
102.3 - Introduction to Web Technology Vocabulary - 5 - (1/17/2020)
This document introduces vocabulary related to HTML, http, https, DNS and a few other acronyms as well as providing a glimpse at the larger framework that enables browsers to operate.
102.3 - Opening a Chrome Browser on a Chromebook! - 5 pages (1/17/2020)
This document goes into opening a Chrome Browser on a Chromebook. This is identical to a Chromium Browser on a Chromium O/S open source system. The Chrome/Chromium Browser on a Chrome O/S Device is slightly different than on a PC or Mac, in a BIG WAY. That is introduced in here.

Multiple Browser instance use for one or more monitors
